What does everyone think about wearing lingerie as outerwear? Tons of stars (like Rihanna and Katy Perry) and even fashion designers (like Christian Dior) are making this trend a huge hit. I just wanted to know everyone's opinion on this new fad. Should lingerie be designed just for the bedroom, or to be worn on the streets too?
Read this press release to see more of what I'm talking about:

| This is obviously not a new trend, but recently I'm seeing more of this in clubs in Europe as well... |

I definetly think this trend is going to be quite big, I do have a lot of friends who have been doing it for years. However on many fashion website, street style forcasters etc ahve been snapping folk wearing lingerie as outerwear. With the main focus seeming to be stockings worn with shorts, or just stockings or hold ups in general.
Not sure I'd be bold enough to go down that road but t is a look I like, especially the vintage night dresses being worn as day wear.

Hi,
Yeah i am agreed with PetiteBelle "this trend is going to be quiet big" peoples are now usually wear lingerie as an outerwear, mostly celebs, that is the reason it comes into fashion, i am not so much bold to wear that as a outerwear, but definitely this trend go a long, no doubt in this. _________________ Designer Lingerie |

When I was v young... (now I am not going to say how long ago that was!) Someone I knew went to a party in a nightie because she did not have the money for a new dress. So I guess this is just a trend coming around again. It makes sense though... so much lingerie is more attractive than the outer garments.... why not show it off? I've been looking through our stock to see what I might wear outside... and this one is definitely a dual purpose item in my view:

Certain pieces (like that one Gilf posted) I think can definitely do double-duty! There are so many lingerie-inspired shirts, dresses, etc. it's sometimes hard to tell what is meant for the bedroom and what is meant for the public. And remember the slip dress trend in the 90s?
For me, I'm kind of middle-of-the-road. I am totally fine with wearing something that is "technically" lingerie but looks a lot like clothing (like the image above, or certain slips), and I definitely let my slips and camis peek out of a lot of my tops and dresses, but I don't do a lot else. For example, I have an underbust corset and I've seen similar items being worn on top of shirts by plenty of women who look great in it, but I just can't work up the nerve to do it with mine. I don't go to dance clubs very often (I'm more into more low-key bars) but I know plenty of women wear corsets as tops there. _________________ Lingerie is the poetry in a woman's wardrobe.

I think that wearing lingerie as outerwear has just taken a new turn. Of course women have worn sexy, silky dresses to clubs for years, but I think today's woman is getting more creative with it. For example, I think corsets are something that are becoming a lot more versatile in the fashion industry. They can be worn in the bedroom or out to a party with a pair of jeans. For instance, I love this look:
I also like the creativity behind this look because wearing a shirt under a waist cincher makes this lingerie garment completely wearable:

It has to be said: fashionisers loved lingerie as outerwear, in fact it's been one of the most popular fashion trends we've written about of late. No, I don't think it sent you all running to your lingerie draw in a bid to parade down the street wearing those cute little nothings you picked up at Agent Provocateur and Coco de Mer; but that's not to say that we haven't spotted some lingerie as outerwear street style.

I think because there is such a large range of underwear now, people may feel like they want to show it off outside of the bedroom too, personally I think some chemises & basques could be worn out but I would not wear anything too revealing. Underwear makes you feel sexy so I can understand why you would want to wear it out and feel sexy both in and out of the bedroom. _________________ Book Ann Summers - Ann Summers Lingerie and toys..... | I did it once for at a party. I wore a nude bra so it almost looked like my boobs were coming out of holes in my shirt. |
