The new SPOYLT collection is here! After YEARS without a new collection, in the meantime undergoing bankruptcy and a change in ownership, Spoylt has FINALLY updated their website with their latest collection.

Maybe it's just the long build-up from waiting for this for years, but...I have to say I'm not too impressed. It doesn't have nearly the same cheeky creativity, luxury, and elegance that characterized earlier collections. (Although, when I think about it, their first collection was really by far the best, and their second "Sirens" collection wasn't nearly as good. I had a few items from the Sirens line that I didn't keep, simply because they weren't as well made or flattering as some of their first and best ranges...but that is all another story.)

Anyway, you can see the new collections here: http://www.spoylt.com/index.php?categoryID=560&category_slug=new-collection

It looks best when they stick to simple designs, like this "Captivate" camisole and French knicker. Hard to go wrong with black silk and lace - although, let's be honest, this is nothing that hasn't already been done to death:

I mean, it's pretty, but go to marygreen.com if you want to buy that sort of thing for a reasonable price. Some of their other ranges are also pretty but bland - the Embrace triangle bra is just not exciting, and the Charm wedding range does not hold a candle to their original wedding ranges, which are still some of the most beautiful sets I have ever seen.

I guess I shouldn't rip on them for being bland, though, because when they try to do something more innovative, it just looks really bad. Case in point - the awful orangey "Beguile" range. The white lace detailing on this looks really tacky:

yuck! what were they thinking with that color??? for a winter collection? and who on earth wants the matching wrist ties to go with THAT set? not me...

This is probably the prettiest set from the whole collection, the "Entice," but again, it's rather dull when you compare it to some of their classic ranges:

I appreciate that they've tried to retain some of their signature designs, like the (super flattering) ruched-back panties and their particular style of layered balcony bras, but everything else they have tried to change either looks wrong or just looks bland and derivative. And none of it looks particularly well-made either.

What happened to the rich jewel tones, luxurious levers lace, and brilliant, daring designs? And no new robes or lingerie bags?

Overall I'm pretty disappointed Sad For lingerie in this price range, I expect something really unique, well-made, or must-have. None of this fits those criteria.

Note to the new owners: please don't stop doing what Spoylt used to do best - pieces that were unique and funky but still tasteful and classic. And more fun accessories please! Also...I would be super excited if they would lower the price on some of the sale items too while they're at it. Smile

I'm so torn! I looked around on the website, and while there are plenty of styles that are pretty, they don't look like SPOYLT to me and now I think Spoylt will just get lost in the mix of every other lingerie brand that is doing similar designs. I used to be able to look at something I hadn't seen before and recognize it as Spoylt. But I don't think I could do that with these designs.
