Everyone gets annoyed and passionate about issues in the real world, there are wrongs from, ethical problems, green shopping, sweatshop labour to human rights issues. I am sure all of us would love to make the world right given opportunity. Wouldn't we?
As many of us are retailers would we not use out stores as platforms to air certain issues we champion?
Some things come to mind for this business genre, ethical trading, green materials, child labour and sweat shop marketing.
I was thinking last night about how athletes should be allowed to voice their concerns over their personal thoughts regarding China. It makes sense that these sports personalities should be allowed to have their free speech rights.
In fact I also decided that if they held such thoughts and aired them... then perhaps I should do the same for my business too. I am going to give this some though over the next week or two and consider reshaping my business views.
I for one am going to boycott all coverage of the Chinese Olympics for my own reasons. By the way if anyone knows of an on-line campaign to boycott media coverage of the Olympics please let me know.
In fact I just found: http://www.wearenotwatching.org/
Anyway the question: Would you as a business owner shape your model of trading around your moral universe? _________________ Smitten for your Kitten

Wow, pretty heavy subject for a lingerie forum but I'll add my two cents. I'd love to see China and other countries respect human rights. What I find most unsettling is that many western countries have no problem doing trade with repressive regimes if there's a dollar in it. I'm not a retailer but I am in business, like it or not I have to keep my views about many things to myself when dealing with potential customers. Like anyone else I have bills to pay.
As for boycotting the Olympics it's a decision many people are considering. But the way I see it the only people getting hurt are the athletes who for the most part are very young and politics is the last thing on their minds, they've spent a good portion of their lives training to reach the ultimate goal. Sure, they should be able to speak their minds about whatever issues are important to them but the bottom line is the corporate dollars that sponsor them. It's not right but that's the way it is. If people really want to get China's attention all they have to do is boycott anything and everything they export. _________________ Once a girl, always a girl |
