I need a bra. I am horribly uncomfortable without one. So, it's nice to have something giving me a hand that doesn't look completely utilitarian. It's no fun to take off all your clothes and see some boring beige high-waisted panties and grandma bra. Then I just feel like my body is something that's not good enough on it's own, and that I have to harness up or something. But if it's a pretty bra, it takes on something entirely different. I feel like I'm worth it to adorn myself in something pretty that shows me off, instead of feel like I have this crazy body that isn't good enough on it's own and has to have certain parts extra-covered up and shaped just to be decent enough for the public. It's something wholly different to have a grandma bra or a really sexy bra. And I quite prefer the sexy ones. I like feeling sexy from the inside out.
I think it's like that for everything - I mean, I could just run down to Kohl's and buy some horrible shapeless white slip and gross control top pantyhose, but I'd rather not. Same thing with panties. Same with hosiery and garters. Underwear obviously has a utilitarian purpose, which is why it was invented in the first place. But beautiful lingerie doesn't have to feel that way. When you strip away the heels and the hot new skirt and the nice new blouse and you are as close to naked as you can possibly be, and you still feel really good about yourself, that's just wonderful. I think it's kind of an art. Now, obviously, things like corsets and babydolls aren't usually utilitarian because most people don't wear them under their everyday clothes. But those are just damn hot, so there's no need to explain those
I do have the ugly things. Some days support is more important to me than beauty and some days my plain white slip is the only one that will work with a particular dress. But I try to keep those days to a minimum! I'm not above planning my outfit around the lingerie I want to wear.
ETA:
Wow.... I wrote a small book there. Sorry.... I just get happy! I've been admiring my new bra for the past couple hours so that certainly didn't help me to keep things concise. _________________ Lingerie is the poetry in a woman's wardrobe.

My theory is that because lingerie is covered up most of the time, it allows us to express our personality or mood more truly than other clothes. Lets face it, most of us have to follow some form of dress code at work and even in our non work time we are still constrained in part by society's dress code rules. But underneath those day clothes we can wear what we really feel like. We are free to be sophisticately sleek in silk, or cutely pretty in lace or sportily practical in lycra - its our choice and that I think is the important factor. _________________ Luxury Lingerie for women who love being women. www.ever-so-sexy.com |

To quote a book I read recently; "Underwear isn't just underwear, Louise; it's the true garment of your secret sexual self. And nasty knickers sabotage your sexual self esteem."
I think this sums it up perfectly |

For me, I wear lingerie for the comfort it provides. I guess thats why I don't care too much for thong panties. How can having a strip of cloth running up your rear end be comfortable?
Well, maybe its just me.
I enjoy wearing lingerie under my clothes at work because it makes me feel very sexy, and very feminine. Working in a office with only females, I fit right in. The gals at work have been so helpful with advice on everything from beauty tips to outfit cordination.
I truly love lingerie-I can't imagine wearing anything else, From going out on the town to just lounging around the house, I wear it all the time. _________________ Thanks, Jim

Well, even though I don't wear women's lingerie, I can relate from the men's underwear/sleepwear standpoint.
If I've got a particularly tough meeting, I do put on specific pairs of underwear. I may have to dress conservatively for the meeting, but if I've got my "power underwear" on, I just feel more confident than I would if I had any old ratty pair of underwear. For me, the power underwear is a black pair of Nautica boxer briefs with white lining.
The same goes with pajamas. I wore pajamas as a kid until I was about 12 years old. Then, one day my Uncle made fun of me for wearing them and I stopped until just last year. My wife bought me a nice pair of Calvin Klein pajama bottoms and I wear them all the time just hanging around the house. They are supremely comfortable and they just make me feel sexy....thus making me feel more confident while I'm wearing them. _________________ Jeff LeRoy

I can't speak for the ladies but, as a guy, I love lingerie solely for the visual impact. What more intimate or personal way is there to adorn the fairer sex than with lingerie? And piggybacking on what Jeff said, unmentionables can be just as sexy for men. Men's fashion has advanced greatly in recent years and we blokes are finally starting to forego the stereotype that the man's man only wears boxers or white briefs. A man can be every bit of a man in a bikini or thong - that's certainly my posture.

I do that, too. When I have a meeting or a presentation, I pick out my underwear to match my outfit/attitude, even though no one can see them. I know some people wear a leopard print thong or something to feel daring and bold during meetings, but for me I like sleek black hipsters because they have the same feeling as what I wear to these meetings - simple and polished but still current and a little conservative.
I'm sure your "power underwear" are great - my favorite look on a guy is simple black boxer briefs _________________ Lingerie is the poetry in a woman's wardrobe.

Just so you know, to win this set you have to enter in the contest topic. You can find it under "General Lingerie Chat" - it's the sticky right at the top. Good luck! _________________ Lingerie is the poetry in a woman's wardrobe.
